U.S. Department of the Navy outlays 1953-Present

U.S. Department of the Navy outlays 1953-Present
I am analyzing U.S. Department of the Navy (DoN) outlays as a percentage of all federal outlays across the history of the United States. I have data on total US federal outlays and total DoN outlays 1789-1953 based on the U.S. Department of Commerce Bureau of the Census (1975). Historical Statistics of the United States: Colonial times to 1970, Part 2, Chapter Y, Series Y 457-465, 1114-1115. Washington, DC: U.S. Government Printing Office. I am looking for a data set from 1953 forward that includes total federal outlays and DoN outlays by year. Thank you.

Thank you for your question.

For the federal outlays, you can find a "Summary of Receipts, Outlays, and Surpluses or Deficits: 1789–2029" in Table 1.1 of the Historical Tables volume of the Budget of the United States Government for Fiscal Year 2025, published by the U.S. Office of Management and Budget (OMB) and available on the GovInfo.gov website at https://www.govinfo.gov/app/details/BUDGET-2025-TAB/context

The table is formatted as a downloadable Excel file; the direct link is https://www.govinfo.gov/content/pkg/BUDGET-2025-TAB/xls/BUDGET-2025-TAB-2-1.xlsx

For the Department of the Navy outlays, see "Table 6-23: Navy Outlays by Public Law Title: FY 1948–FY 2029" on page 246 of the National Defense Budget Estimates for FY 2025, published by the Office of the Under Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) and known popularly as the "Green Book." The Green Book for 2025 is available online at https://comptroller.defense.gov/Portals/45/Documents/defbudget/FY2025/fy25_Green_Book.pdf

A direct link to Table 6-23 is https://comptroller.defense.gov/Portals/45/Documents/defbudget/FY2025/fy25_Green_Book.pdf#page=253
