CFR 112, Title 21 question

CFR 112, Title 21 question
Referred from askGPO

Question One:
In CFR 112, title 21, it says that the approved analysis methods for field water analysis is Hach Method 10029, we need to know if this also includes the Standard test for water and wastewater method 9222 J, which is not mentioned, but is the same procedure.

Question Two:
Please we need your technical assistance to tell us if there is a difference between the HACH 10029 method and the one developed by Standard Method water and waste 9222 J.
Are both EPA-approved for field water analysis?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The EPA has approved 9222 J as an alternative method for testing for contaminants in drinking water listed at 40 CFR Part 141(https://www.epa.gov/system/files/documents/2024-02/rtcr-methods-table.pdf), but whether that would meet the requirements of 21 CFR 112 would be up to the FDA to interpret.

You can contact the FDA for questions about compliance with their policies or regulations. Contact information and instructions are available at https://www.fda.gov/industry/fda-basics-industry/submit-questions-and-comments Select "Foods" (Industry.Foods@fda.gov) for inquiries related to analysis of water being used in agriculture.
