Dates in 64/65 for Medicare debate in Congress

Dates in 64/65 for Medicare debate in Congress
I've found the transcripts of Congressional debates (I think) at https://www.govinfo.gov/app/collection/crecb_gpo/_crecb but don't know what dates Medicare was debated and can't find it. Any suggestions on how to find this info so I can track down the debate transcripts?

Answer

Thank you for your question.

The Social Security History page on the SSA Web site has many historical documents, essays, and other information that I think will be helpful to your research.

You can find a brief summary of the floor debates and votes for Medicare (the Social Security Amendments of 1965) at https://www.ssa.gov/history/tally65.html

You can find a much more detailed legislative history of Medicare at https://www.ssa.gov/policy/docs/ssb/v28n9/v28n9p3.pdf

There is a massive, multi-volume compilation of the full text of all the documents produced during the legislative process (These are part of a larger set of Social Security legislative histories called the "Downey Books") .

Click on the headings below to see the full text of that volume (I have included the table of contents beneath each heading):
