US Code 2019 on govinfo
How to I find the 2018 and 2019 versions of the US Code on govinfo? I can only find up to 2017. Surely the website isn't two years behind?
Answer
The U.S. Code (USC) is updated by the Office of Law Revision Counsel of the House of Representatives. The main volumes of the USC are issued every 6 years and are updated by annual supplements. The annual supplements cannot be prepared until the end of the session of Congress in order to include whatever legislation was passed during that session. Therefore, there is a time lag between the passage of laws and their inclusion in the main edition of USC (info from https://uscode.house.gov/about_code.xhtml).
Govinfo contains the most recent *main edition* of USC. 2018 is not there because it is still being prepared, and there won't be a 2019 main edition until after the end of the current legislative session. It might help to think of the USC on Govinfo as the virtual equivalent of the printed volumes. To read the most recent online version of the USC, which includes laws passed during the current session, visit https://uscode.house.gov/browse.xhtml.
